They say that watercolors are wonderful for supporting the arts because they are so forgiving. You don't need a perfect rendering, just a hint and the mind fills in the rest. I'd like for my writing to be forgiven the way watercolorists are. A detailed watercolor painting of two wooden ships in a raucous sea would be a few brown clouds on a background of alternating blue and dark blue with white highlights.
Sitting at a desk and writing a report is a technical task. It requires a deep knowledge of the subject and an orderly manner in reporting out facts. It enforces leaving out extraneous and wastefulness by way of its very form. While the act is literally the same - sit at desk. type. think. type more. change mind. delete. type again better.- It is not the same.
An actor pretending to pray to god with all their might is leaving out quite a bit of might to keep in mind they are acting, unless of course they are embodying the character and genuinely praying for a story. Either way it can't be rendered correctly to reality any better than a watercolorist can steampunk.
My autobiography would be full of lies because that is the life I lived.
