When the impending occurs and the collapse is real, there will be a whole new class of super-citizens, the keepers.
Keepers of fire.
Keepers of Books.
Keepers of electricity.
We used to have societies stratified by the skills of the individual and we'll get there again. Knowing how to fix an engine is important today, but when the factories are bombed and the only engines are the ones existing, being able to repair will be critical.
Keepers of water.
The problem with a complex globally connected society is that we all rely on one another without knowing each other. Without a relationship, short of transactional, we all try for the edge. We wouldn't get one over on a friend, but a stranger...buyer beware.
Fahrenheit 451 had dudes memorizing books, and I'm sure we'll get there...but before that there will be a ton of struggle.
Boy Scouts were formed because London City boys were weak and would die in the wild. We need a restart right quick or lots of innocent people will suffer for lack of basic skills knowledge.
